The thirty-ninth skull!
Skull 39

This is based on a Dilophosaurus skull, which had two round crests on the front of its head. You may notice that the front of the jaw is crooked or disjointed (I’m not sure what the correct term is, but you can see that it looks weird), but that’s what my references looked like, too! It looks like the crests are part of the bone that is connected to the nasal passages, whereas the eye sockets/side are almost like a separate piece fused on. When I was looking up dinosaur skulls, I picked this one because it looked neat and creepy… and when I began to paint it, I thought it looked like a creepy Skeksis from the “Dark Crystal” movie! That actually made it pretty fun to paint, and I may have gone a little crazy with some details, but I love how it turned out.

Spooky Film: Today’s spooky film of the day is “The Dark Crystal” because this skull reminds me of the Skeksis. If you haven’t seen the film, it’s a horrifying “children’s” movie (at least, it was horrifying to me… at least a few parts were!). Those Skeksis were super spooky.
