The thirty-seventh skull!
Skull 37

This painting was actually inspired by a videogame! I had seen something similar with a mushroom cloud and I thought it would be a fun skull to paint!
This one turned out very interesting to me because it looks like it has texture even though a lot of it was “smoothed down.” I think it had to do with the amount of medium I used (whoops, probably a little more than I should have) and the cadmium red, which was very harsh/ hard and didn’t blend as much as it just had less bits of paint, so the background red almost looks slightly “speckled”? It’s hard to describe, really. I also had fun making the cloud parts, sometimes blending into the red (without getting too pink) and sometimes more greenish-white to offset the red.
I’m happy that oils are so forgiving, since at first I hadn’t used enough dark color to offset the red, and the first time I put light gray onto the canvas, it instantly turned pink, which you can see in the video, haha. Luckily, I could just layer on more dark gray, then light gray, etc. until I was satisfied with the results.

Spooky Film: Today’s spooky film of the day is “Maximum Overdrive.” I LOVE this movie, as silly as it is – who couldn’t love trucks that come to life and try to murder people? hehehe 😀
