May 2018 Newsletter

May Newsletter
Hello everyone!  The monthly newsletter is here!  Included in each monthly update is art that I’ve completed in the past month, links to videos that I’ve created (timelapses or instructional videos) this month, art that I’ve put up for sale and that which will be going up for sale shortly, a description of the next monthly raffle and how to enter (it’s at the bottom if you’re antsy!), and any other artsy news.

If you like to see my work as it comes out or as I’m working on it, I post almost-daily on Facebook, Minds, Instagram, and Gab, and my videos will also be posted on my Youtube channel.  My original work is currently for sale on Etsy.

Thanks as always for subscribing and feel free to leave a comment or send me a message if you have any questions or just want to say something; I will do my best to answer.

May Plans:

Last month’s theme was “Dinosaurs,” and since I missed out on a few paintings I wanted to do, there might be another dino or two this month.  This month’s theme is “Forests” – mostly because I’ve wanted to paint some nice landscapes again and I love forests 😀

Last Month’s Artwork:

Here are all the fun dino paintings I’ve done this past month!  I’ve never painted dinosaurs before this month (with the exception of two dino “skulls” I did last year), so it was interesting to see what I could come up with, especially since all the sources and references were either skeletons or other people’s interpretations of the creatures.  I also had a little experiment where I painted one mini Compsognathus dinosaur and then tried to mirror it using only the previous painting to see how well I could flip it in my head.  As I mentioned, there might be one or two more dino paintings this month, but let me know which of these are your favorites! 🙂

Last Month’s Videos:

My full videos (and a few real-time clips!) are available on YouTube and Facebook, and short clips of the full videos and real-time videos are also available on Instagram.
Full videos from this month:

  1. Oil Painting Timelapse – Pachycephalosaurus
  2. Oil Painting Timelapse – Triceratops

Artwork for Sale:

If you’re interested in buying any of my original pieces, they will often be available on my Etsy site a few weeks after they’ve been painted – I will now be posting new items every Thursday.  If there is a piece that catches your eye that has not yet been put up for sale (such as any of the artwork posted in “last month’s artwork” above), feel free to send me a message and I will be happy to let you know what the price will be and you can have the chance to claim the painting before I put it up for sale officially!

Last month, I was at the Fredericksburg Arts & Crafts Fair on April 7th and 8th, met some lovely people, and had a great time!  Thanks to everyone who showed up to say hi, thanks to my mother and stepfather for helping me out during the fair, and thanks to the venue and team of people who put it together.  It was a fun time and now I’m really excited about going to more shows.  I think I’ll definitely have to go to the “Holiday Show” in early December!!!  Let me know if there are any shows you’d like to see me show up to – I’m always looking for new ideas 🙂  Speaking of new ideas, I talked to some very friendly people about a new artistic venture at the fair… so there might be something a little different in the works (but I won’t say anything until I know for sure).  😀

Upcoming Raffle:

Every first Friday of every month, I will have a raffle, which you can enter to win something for free!  This month’s raffle will be on Friday, May 4th.  Let me know your favorite of these for a chance to win one!  All you need to do to enter is to comment or send me a message on any of my social media posts, on my website, or directly to my email address (scenesbycolleen@gmail.com).  I will check everything before deciding the winner on Saturday.  Good luck and thanks for watching! 🙂
